WHAT IS CWJC?

What is Chrisitan Women's Job Corp.?

CWJC is an outreach program developed by the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU).  The purpose of CWJC is two-fold:

#1 to provide a Christian context in which women in

need are equipped for life and employment and

#2 a missions context in which women help women.

What happens in the CWJC program?
Women receive training in life skills and job readiness. Our instructional material is customized to meet the needs of the participants and their community.

Examples of “life skills” training are:

     · household budgeting

     · parenting skills

     · anger management

     · insurance basics

     · financing basics

     · 30-minute meals

     · budget shopping

Examples of “job readiness” training are:

     · computer classes

     · resume writing

     · interviewing 101

     · job searching

     · oral communication in the workplace

     · business letter writing

What makes CWJC different from other job-readiness programs?
Two elements make CWJC different and successful:

#1  Each participant is involved in Bible study; and

#2  Participants are matched with a trained Christian

woman who will be a mentor as the participant

travels the road from dependency to self-sufficiency.

Is there anything all CWJC sites have in common?
Yes! A trained coordinator leads each site. The ministry is built on the purpose of CWJC and eight key elements:

  • Certification of the Site with CWJC National
  • An Advisory Council OR Board of Directors
  • Community Needs Assessment
  • Networking with Community Resources
  • Covenants with Volunteers and Participants
  • Evaluations to Keep Ministry Relevant
  • A Mentor for Each Participant
  • Bible Study

How is the CWJC of NW Arkansas site set up?

Participants meet together in a classroom setting for fellowship, Bible study, and instruction in life and job skills.  Meetings with mentors occur outside the classroom setting.

How do you fund CWJC of NW Arkansas?

CWJC of NW Arkansas is an independent site not funded by one particular church or association.  Some of our funding is dependent upon the support of our local community churches, women’s groups, individuals, and associations.

CWJC of NW Arkansas also obtains funding by holding fund-raising events as well as applying for grants offered by organizations and corporations.  We are a non-profit organization registered in the State of Arkansas and hold Tax-Exempt Status from the IRS as a 501(c)(3) entity.  Our board and staff are all volunteers from local churches.

Where are CWJC programs located?
CWJC programs are located throughout the United States. There are currently four (4) sites in Arkansas:

  • Arkansas River Valley Baptist Assoc. in Russellville;
  • Fort Smith CWJC;
  • North Pulaski Baptist Assoc. CWJC in Sherwood; and

How many people does it take to operate a CWJC site?
The number varies according to the program design. Working with the site coordinator will be volunteers who serve as Directors on the Board; as mentors; as instructors; fund raising/events support; as office support; and as prayer team partners.

Who can be participants of a CWJC program?
Any woman in need who wants to be equipped for life and employment through the CWJC ministry is eligible for CWJC.  There is no cost for those participating in the program; our services are free. There is a process for application and acceptance into the program. Persons with needs that cannot be met by CWJC of NW Arkansas are referred to a program in the community that can help them.

What are the goals for a CWJC participant?
     1. Begin and/or grow in a personal relationship with

        Jesus Christ.
     2. Complete job-readiness and life-skills program(s).
     3. Attain self-sufficiency.
     4. Give back to the CWJC program.

Does every CWJC participant get a job?
CWJC is a Christian life and job skills training program. No woman is guaranteed employment after completing a CWJC program.  The program does strive to prepare each participant for work in her community.  CWJC of NW Arkansas networks with community agencies and businesses to make participants aware of local job opportunities.
